HEALTHY AGING WITH FOOD

Join Susan Blake, MS, NTP, CGP, IFS Practitioner for one or all of the following workshops.  Learn about how to support the aging process through food and diet, specifically all the details of a whole, clean food eating plan that is easy and delicious.  Recipes will be included in every class. 

 

GET THE SUGAR OUT!

This class explains why it is important to go beyond simply eliminating plain old white refined sugar. Sugar comes in many forms, many that are hidden in foods that are not sweet. You will learn about various forms of sugar, food with hidden sugar, the main foods to avoid, the best choices for treats, and how to create a meal plan without sugar.

EAT TO DECREASE INFLAMMATION

Inflammation is associated with almost every health condition and symptom related to aging. While it is a normal process, chronic inflammation needs to be addressed.  You will learn some of the many factors that impact inflammation, which food to avoid, which food to include, and how to create a meal plan

HOW TO RIDE METRO: TRANSPORTATION WORKSHOP

Tuesday, January 21,  10:30 – 11:30 am

Learn to safely and confidently travel on public transportation.  During this in-house PowerPoint presentation, time will be focused on how to ride the Metro bus. Subjects such as paying the fare, how to use the ORCA card, what information is at a bus stop, where is the bus stop, what is a bus stop address, communicating with the bus driver, exiting at the right stop, problem solving, and much more. During the presentation, you will have the opportunity to sign-up for an optional escorted instructional outing

on Wednesday, January 22.  Attendance in the workshop is a prerequisite for going on the community instructional outing.

WIDOWED – IT’S COMPLICATED: MOVING FORWARD WHILE AVOIDING THE POTHOLES

This series of one-hour workshops will be a blend of informative presentation and facilitated discussion of the challenges faced by widowed people.  Workshop facilitated by Carol Smith, MA, ED.

An introductory event, including setting the tone for participation and taking private inventory of circumstances; a worksheet will be provided.  We will also discuss such items as family dynamics, changes in how we are perceived in our personal circles, and managing others' expectations of us.

WIDOWED - DECISIONS ABOUT OUR SPACES & THE THINGS WE LOVE

The focus will be on our homes and how we live in them.  We will discuss the possible timing for moving if that is your desire.  We will also take a good look at the topic of possessions - how to decide what our belongings really mean to us.  Many of us feel that we must defend any choices we make about our possessions.

This session will largely be driven by attendee requests - what challenges or opportunities you would like to discuss.  Additionally, we will talk about what might be missing in our current lives, and how we can fill those gaps.

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR PAINTING SERIES WITH JO ANNE IWASAKI

 

INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOR

Have you always wanted to try watercolor painting?  If so here's your opportunity, a perfect class for beginners.  Learn the fundamentals of watercolor painting, and the proper application of this beautiful and challenging medium. 

Try different techniques to create a variety of effects.  Come away with a nice painting.  Supplies provided but bring if you have any.

BEGINNING: SKIES IN WATERCOLOR

Friday           March 20        12:30 – 3:30 pm

Learn how to paint beautiful skies in watercolor, clouds, sunsets, storms.  A lesson on how to cover large areas with vibrant color washes to create dramatic skies.  Timing and application techniques are important to achieve desired effects.  Supplies provided but bring if you have any.

BEGINNING: TREES IN WATERCOLOR

Friday           April 3       12:30 – 3:30 pm

We are surrounded by beautiful trees in the Great Northwest.  Learn different approaches to paint a variety of trees in watercolor. Try various techniques to paint evergreen and deciduous trees throughout the seasons. Supplies provided but bring if you have any.
