Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Softball FAQ (pdf)

Rosters/Player Additions

Every team registered in the City of Kent Parks, Recreation & Community Services sponsored leagues must turn in a completed roster by the designated deadline date for each season.  Teams may add players to their original roster by using the "Player Add Form".  Some leagues/divisions are allowed to use players under the age of 18 as long as we have a consent form on file.

Free Agent Player

Kent Parks Softball is not structured to find teams for individual players.  However, we maintain an up to date "free agent" list at the Kent Commons Community Center.  If you are a player looking for a team, we will be happy to post your contact information on the "free agent" list.  Team representatives visit our office frequently seeking players.  Please contact our office at (253) 856-5000.

Code of Conduct

Every player participating in the City of Kent Adult Leagues will be responsible to abide by the "Player Code of Conduct" and rules/regulations set forth for each athletic program.   We work hard to offer fun and competitive recreational sports leagues as a service and need for our community.  We will not tolerate individuals or teams jeopardizing our commitment to this service.

Game Schedules/Standings

Game schedules, league standings and game scores are updated on a daily basis.  However, unforseen circumstances may not allow us to update the next day.  Every effort will be made to update as soon as time allows.  Please check back often for schedule updates, standing updates and latest scores for the games.

Rainouts and Rescheduling

In case of inclement weather, call the rainout line at (253) 856-5020, press 1.  Decisions are typically made by 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 3 p.m. Sundays.  If the weather conditions change after 4 p.m. (3 p.m.), teams may need to show up at the fields for decision to play.  The message will be updated as soon as possible in the event of cancellations.

Please note the rainout line is only updated in the event of a cancellation of games or closure of fields.  Please listen to the entire message as not all fields/games will need to be cancelled in inclement weather situations.

All games rained out will be rescheduled by the league director.  Typically, rescheduled games will be scheduled at the end of the season.  However, due to field conflicts and late season rainouts, rescheduled games may be scheduled for any day of the week.

Softball Rules

All Games are governed by ASA (Amateur Softball Association) and USSSA (United State Specialty Sports Association) Softball Rules in conjunction with the Kent Parks League Rules.  League rules supercede the national rules.

Field Locations

We are proud to offer premier athletic facilities for our leagues and tournaments.  Each facility requires consideration to maintain them in the best possible condition.  Rules and regulations are in place to preserve the integrity of the fields for the best interests of all users.  Below are links to all of our facilities with directions and rules/regulations.

Tournaments

Each league completes their season with a season ending tournament.  Depending on the season, these tournaments range from single elimination or double elimination.  Please refer to each season for the particular format used.

Kent Parks contracts with individuals and/or associations to host weekend tournaments/special events.  Please refer to the tournament schedule links for upcoming events scheduled on Kent athletic fields.

Equipment

Kent Parks Softball program uses the Licensed/Approved Bats list distributed by ASA and USSSA for all leagues.  The most current version of this list can be obtained from their website at www.usssa.com and www.teamusa.org

Softballs are provided by the league for each of your games.  Home team is responsible for providing the "back up" for all games.  Softballs can be purchased from the Kent Commons Community Center at a competitive price, when available.
