Standard park rules

Parks are open daily from dawn to dusk, unless otherwise posted or authorized by the City of Kent.

  • Dogs and/or domestic animals must be kept on a leash.
  • Leash shall be no greater than 8 feet.
  • Cutting, picking or destruction of plant life or property is prohibited.
  • Removal of any City property is prohibited.
  • Parking in designated areas only. No parking after closing time.
  • Unauthorized possession of firearms or weapons is prohibited.
  • Household and/or commercial garbage dumping prohibited.
  • Horseback riding prohibited except in designated areas.
  • Keep all vehicles on roadways.
  • Open fires are prohibited. Use BBQ grills only.
  • All fireworks are prohibited.
  • Alcoholic beverages and cannabis are prohibited.
  • Golfing is prohibited.

Special park rules

Town Square Plaza

  • Standard Park Rules
  • Enjoy the water features safely.
  • Respect other fountain plaza users.
  • Do not put items in the fountains that may harm them (e.g. soil, trash, glass, pets, soap)
  • If restroom door is locked, it is in use.  Please be patient.
  • No skateboards or bicycles in Plaza.
  • Plaza and restrooms are open from dawn to dusk (Summer hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) unless otherwise posted.

Lake Fenwick Park

  • Standard Park Rules
  • No lifeguard on duty. Swim at your own risk.
  • No radio controlled boats.
  • No motor powered boats except electric fishing trolling motors.
  • Removal of stocked Grass Carp prohibited.  Other fish OK.

Old Fishing Hole

Clark Lake Park

  • Standard Park Rules
  • No radio controlled boats.
  • No motor powered boats except electric fishing trolling motors.
  • No lifeguard on duty. Shoreline unstable, swimming prohibited.

Skate Parks (Arbor Heights 360, Lions and West Fenwick)

  • Standard Park Rules
  • Skate at your own risk.
  • Safety helmet and equipment should be worn at all times.
  • Skating against traffic is not permitted.
  • Ramps must be clear of other skaters before you proceed.
  • Bicycles and BMX's are not permitted.
  • Alcohol, smoking, drugs, or glass containers are not allowed.
  • Profanity, loud music, bad behavior, or recklessness is not allowed.

Lake Meridian Park

  • Standard Park Rules
  • The Park is open year round, dawn to dusk, unless otherwise posted or authorized by the City.
  • No alcoholic beverages or cannabis allowed in the park.
  • All dogs must be on a leash. No Dogs on the beach, in the water, or on the dock.
  • No smoking, running or pushing on the dock.
  • All children six years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All floating swim aids (air mattresses, etc.) will be confined to the shallow area.
  • Swimming is allowed in designated areas only.
  •  Lake Meridian Boating Rules:
    • Exhaust must be muffled or underwater.
    • No reckless and/or negligent operation.
    • No remote controlled watercraft from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • All vessels operating after sundown must have running lights on.
  •  Personal Watercraft (Jet Skis, Ski Doos, etc.): May operate 0-8 MPH any day except during hours of darkness. Maximum speed is 8 MPH from September 16th through May 15th. May operate 8-35 MPH ONLY between the hours of 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m. on EVEN numbered days of the calendar from May 16th through September 15th.
  •  All Other Vessels (except Personal Watercraft): May access the lake daily. May operate 8-35 MPH between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. May not exceed posted speed limit of 0-8 MPH between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. When exceeding 8 MPH, must be 200 feet from shore and 100 feet from other vessels and swimmers. When exceeding 8 MPH, must travel in counterclockwise direction only. Must adhere to all posted rules and regulations for vessels.
  •  Waterskiing (defined as being towed behind a vessel in any manner): Permitted daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at speeds from 8-35 MPH. Must adhere to all posted rules and regulations for waterskiing.
  •  Lifeguards: Will be on duty daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from late June through Labor Day.
  •  Park Shelters: Shelters are available for rent. Scheduling is handled through the Kent Commons 253-856-5000.
  • All violations are subject to prosecution pursuant to Kent City Code Chapter 406.

Wilson Playfields

  • Standard Park Rules
  • Drop-in users must vacate entire field for reserved users. Call Kent Commons at 253-856-5000 to reserve fields.
  • Alcohol/drugs/tobacco products prohibited in all park areas.
  • Sunflower seeds prohibited on park grounds.
  • Players and coaches only are allowed on the synthetic turf.
  • Drinking water is permitted on fields.
  • Tennis shoes and rubber-molded cleats are allowed. Metal cleats, spikes and high heeled shoes are prohibited.
  • No hitting/kicking into fences with baseballs/softballs/soccer balls.
  • Climbing on fences prohibited.
  • No standing on dugout benches.
  • Spectators must remain in the bleacher areas or on the rubber warning track.
  • Consume food and drink in concrete plaza/mezzanine areas only.

Park Shelter Use Rules

  • Standard Park Rules
  • Park shelters may be rented daily.
  • "Drop In" groups/events must vacate in the event the Park Shelter has been officially reserved.

Open Space Rules

  • Standard Park Rules
  • No dumping.
  • No overnight camping.
  • No motorized vehicles.
  • No cutting or destruction of plant life.
  • No hunting.

Tennis Court/Basketball Court Rules

  • Standard Park Rules
  • One hour time limit when others are waiting.
  • Tennis shoes only.
  • Bikes, trikes, rollerblades, rollerskates, skateboards prohibited.
  • No reservations required.
