Step 1 - Apply Through the Permitting Portal

All permits are processed through the permitting portal, which can be accessed here. Additional instructions can be found here.

Step 3 - Get Your Permit 

Pay Permit Fees

  • Intake Fees: These fees will be billed at the conclusion of your successful intake processing. A fee invoice will be provided, and payment will be required before Permit Review can start. All intake fees must be paid within 15 days or the application will be cancelled.
  • Issuance Fees: Once Permit Review has been completed, you will receive a new fee invoice with the remaining balance due. All remaining fees must be paid prior to your permit being issued.

Payment Options

Regardless of how payment is made all permits will be issued via the Citizen Portal. 

Please note:

  • A 2.65% Processing Fee will be added to all credit and debit card transactions
  • Maximum payment amount is limited to $99,999

Pay Online

Please navigate to your Citizen Portal home page. Click on the “Detail” button for the permit you would like to make a payment for. Click “Fee Details”, then “Pay Selected Fees” and follow the prompts. You may need to allow pop-up windows from the site.

Pay In-Person

Find the Customer Service Finance Counter, located on the first floor of the Centennial Center, at:

Kent, WA 98032

Customer Service is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pay by Mail

Send in a check and reference the bill number or include a copy of the bill:

Permits will still be issued electronically via the permitting portal.

Find a Contractor

You will need a contractor with a valid Washington State business license.

Contractors working inside Kent city limits are required to obtain a City of Kent business license. Business licenses may be applied for using this link: https://www.filelocal-wa.gov/

Getting Your Permit

Your permit and associated approved documents will be provided electronically when we confirm that:

  • The permit fees are paid
  • The contractor's license is valid
