Councilmember Zandria MichaudServing her second term on council, Kent City Councilmember Zandria Michaud has a deep connection to public service and issues facing our community. Zandria grew up in Kent near Park Orchard and is a proud graduate of Kentwood High School. She went on to serve in the United States Army for five years as a broadcast journalist and public affairs specialist. While in the military, she lived abroad in Germany for three years.

While in the Army, Zandria met her husband, Patrick. Together, they had their son Gabriel. They picked Kent as their forever home because they truly loved the sense of community. Zandria dove deep into community service as a Green Kent Steward, a Kent School District employee, and a youth basketball coach for both the Kent Parks Department and the YMCA. Additionally, Zandria served on the Kent Parks and Recreation Commission for five years, including a term as Vice Chair and a term as Chair of the Commission. She is currently serving as Kent’s Parks and Human Services Subject Matter Chair, Human Services Council Liaison, and as a member of the Firefighters’ Relief & Pension Board. Zandria also represents the Sound Cities Association as a member of the King County Regional Law, Safety, and Justice Committee, and the Association of Washington Cities as a member of the Washington Community Forestry Council and Washington State Tree Equity Collaborative Steering Committee.

Zandria graduated summa cum laude from the University of Washington Tacoma campus with a bachelor’s degree in American studies with a minor in Politics and Global Honors. She dedicated her studies to finding ways to improve democracy in city-level government, specifically focusing on civic engagement. She has also earned her Certificate in Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities.

In her free time, Zandria and her family enjoy hikes, exploring Kent’s parks and open spaces, and traveling near and abroad.
