Portrait of Councilmember Sharn ShokerKent has always been home to me. I grew up here, and now my husband and I are raising our son here as well. This community has shaped who I am, and it’s deeply personal to me to give back through this role.

Since being sworn in, I’ve focused on preparing for the work ahead by meeting with City staff, department leaders, and various community leaders to better understand how the City operates—both internally and externally—and how decisions are made. I believe good policy starts with listening, learning, and asking thoughtful questions, especially of the people most impacted by those decisions.

I hold a master’s degree in Policy Studies from the University of Washington, and my background is in nonprofit leadership and public policy. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with youth and families and helped advance collaborative, practical solutions that center equity, opportunity, and accountability. I currently serve on the boards of the Randhawa Foundation and the Kent Schools Foundation, and I am an active member of the Kent Rotary Club.

At City Hall, I bring a values-driven, solutions-oriented approach grounded in the belief that government should work for everyone. I am committed to making sure Kent remains an affordable place to live and raise a family, with access to good jobs and safe neighborhoods. I support policies that uplift working families, strengthen small businesses, protect our environment, and invest in public safety and community well-being.

Looking ahead, I am focused on thoughtful, inclusive decision-making that reflects Kent’s shared values and prepares us for the future. I look forward to being out in the community, learning from you, and sharing updates about the work ahead.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It is an honor to get to work for Kent.
