Councilmember Satwinder KaurSatwinder Kaur (pronounced Seth-win-der Core), President of the Kent City Council, is a lifelong resident of Kent and proud graduate of Kentridge High School. She and her husband are raising their four children—including a newborn—in the city they call home.

Having served on the Kent City Council since 2018, Satwinder was elected by her colleagues as Council President in 2024. She brings both lived experience and a deep commitment to public service to her role on the Council, where she works to ensure that all voices in the community are heard—especially those who are often not at the table.

“I want to bring new perspectives that may not have been considered before,” she says.

In addition to holding associate’s, bachelor’s, and an MBA from University of Washington, Satwinder is certified in Six Sigma and Lean Management. She works in the IT sector and brings a strong problem-solving mindset and systems-based thinking to her public service. Her earlier experience as an admin in the Mayor’s Office gave her insight into the everyday issues residents face, and she remains committed to listening to individuals, families, business owners, and community leaders alike.

Satwinder’s passion for Kent is reflected in her active involvement in numerous local and regional organizations. She currently serves on the following boards and committees:

Regional Committees:

  • Chair, Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Advisory Council
  • Member, Growth Management Planning Council
  • Member, Domestic Violence Regional Task Force
  • Member, Growth Management Policy Board
  • Member, Association of Washington Cities Nominating Committee
  • Member, Association of Washington Cities Federal and State Policy Committee

Past Local Boards and Initiatives:

  • Chair, Kent Cultural Communities Board
  • Green Kent Park Steward, Kent Parks
  • Board of Trustees, Greater Kent Historical Society
  • Board of Directors, Living Well Kent
  • Member, Mayor’s Diversity Task Force, City of Renton
  • Board Member, Puget Sound Access

Some of Satwinder’s favorite things about Kent include hanging out at Clark Lake Park, enjoying food from around the world, participating in the Adopt-a-Street program with the Sikh community, and seeing people of all backgrounds come together to support one another. She values Kent’s rich diversity, strong community spirit, and inclusive places of worship.

“I love the amazing people we have in Kent. It’s a caring community where people truly look out for their neighbors,” she says. “They choose Kent—the biggest city in South King County—as their home.”

When she isn’t working, volunteering, or serving on Council, Satwinder enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the outdoors, and attending various events in Kent.

With every decision she makes, Satwinder is guided by a simple but powerful goal: to leave Kent a better place for future generations to live, work, and thrive in.
