Electronic Permits-Beginning Monday March 30, 2020

As part of our COVID-19 response, the City of Kent will require electronic submittal of all permits.

Resubmittals to permits currently in process  are accepted electronically or via parcel delivery/ US Mail only. 

SUBMITTING/RESUBMITTING A PERMIT APPLICATION:

  • Use this tool to verify that the project address is in Kent’s City limits.

 

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE

Email a .pdf of a completed application form to PermitCenter@kentwa.gov.

Do not include plans or other documents, we'll get to those later.

Please send one email for each application. 

Subject Line: For new submittals, include the project name, the word SUBMITTAL, and the number of emails you are sending.

For resubmittals, include the project name, the word RESUBMITTAL, the KIVA NUMBER and the number of emails you are sending

Example:

Email #1: (if  new submittal) : Your Project Name, SUBMITTAL:  1 of 1

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU  EMAIL YOUR APPLICATION FORM A Permit Technician will begin processing your application, and will contact you with instructions for uploading project plans and documents via One Drive.

ONE DRIVE

One Drive is a cloud-based service that allows for simple electronic transfer of project plans and documents.

ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS Electronic documents must be in .pdf format and meet the City's electronic submittal standards
 REVIEW

Review comments: Upon completion of detailed review, a staff member will contact you if approval of your application requires additional information or revisions. Details will be conveyed via email and marked-up plan sheets.

Approval: If the information in your submittal is sufficient and the City can issue a permit, a staff member will contact you with fee information and other direction for receiving your permit.

FEES

All project fees will be collected after permit review is complete, prior to issuance. You will receive notice of fees and payment instructions when the permit is ready for pick-up.  COVID-19 social distancing requirement will require that all payments are by phone or check.

  • by mail - City of Kent Customer Service, 220 Fourth Ave S, Kent WA, 98032
  • check drop off – Located in the back of the parking lot between City Hall and the Centennial Building. The box is designated for utility payments, permit payments are currently being accepted at this location.

Visa and MasterCard - call 253-856-5201 between  9am – 4pm, Monday – Friday. Your permit IVR number will be needed to make payment -  this located in the upper right-hand corner of the fee listing.

We are currently experiencing longer hold times due to limited staffing.  We appreciate your patience.  Please note that a 2.65% Processing Fee will be added to all credit/debit card transactions.

 

 PERMIT PICK-UP

 FOR PAPER PLANS SUBMITTED BEFORE MARCH 30, 2020:

  • Once fees have been paid, you will be contacted to schedule a pick-up appointment. You will be asked to meet staff at the west door of the City's Centennial Center Building. 

FOR ELECTRONIC PLANS:

When plans are ready, you will be notified with instructions for electronic pick-up.
