Saturday Events & Friday Mini Collection Events

Each year the City of Kent hosts a number of FREE recycling collection events that allow residents to dispose of recyclable items not typically accepted at the curb. Instead of going to the landfill as trash, all collected items will be reused or recycled!

Acceptable items to bring on Saturdays: 

  • Appliances  
  • Batteries 
  • Bulky yard debris
  • CFC appliances  
  • Concrete, Brick, Rock (summer only)
  • Documents for shredding
  • Electronics (No TV's or monitors - visit e-cycle Washington for more details) 
  • Mattresses and box springs (No futons)
  • Porcelain - toilets, tubs, and sinks
  • Propane tanks
  • Scrap metal 
  • Styrofoam 
  • Tires (no rims) - Passenger tires only - limit 10/vehicle (spring & fall only)

Rain Barrel, Compost Bin, & Worm Bin Sales

Purchase rain barrels, compost bins, and worm bins (new in 2026!) at our Saturday recycle collection events. Sales start at 9:00 a.m. Residents may purchase and haul a new rain barrel (55-gallon, color may vary), compost bin (80-gallon), and/or "Worm Factory" for $25 each (cash only).

Quantities are limited and purchasing limits may apply. Barrel and bin specifications (pdf). More information on the worm bins can be found at Nature's Footprint website.

Containers were purchased with grant funds provided by the King County Solid Waste Division and are made from recycled plastic.

Mini Collection Recycle Events

With our free mini recycle events, disposing of your recyclable items has never been easier!

Mini events focus on collecting the following specific items:

TV's, Monitors, & Electronics

TV's, Computer Monitors, & Electronics: TV's (TV sets encased in plastic, wood console, sets encased in wood, and big screens accepted), Computers, Desktops, Laptops, Monitors, Tablets, E-readers, Cell phones, DVD/Blu-ray players, Fax machines, Holiday lights, Keyboards, Mice, Microwaves, Remote controls, Scanners, VCR's, Wires. Document Shredding: Bring your sensitive documents to shred in our safe and secure shredding truck. Limited to 4 legal sized boxes or 5 paper bags limit. 

Scrap Metal: Used lawn mowers (no oil or gas), weed eaters, metal lawn chairs, metal lawn tools, BBQs, *non-CFC appliances, iron, steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and other ferrous and nonferrous metals. 

*Will not accept CFC appliances (AC units, refrigerators, freezers, etc.)

Paint Only Recycle Events

The city now hosts paint only recycle events for residents to easily and conveniently recycle all their leftover paints.

Under the Washington State Paint Stewardship Program (PaintCare), the city will accept any amount of accepted product in its original containers of 5-gallon size or less of the following items from households

Paint Recycling

 

  • Interior and exterior architectural paints: latex, acrylic, water-based, alkyd, oil-based, enamel (including textured coatings)
  • Deck coatings, floor paints (including elastomeric)
  • Primers, sealers, under coaters
  • Stains
  • Shellacs, lacquers, varnishes, urethanes (single component)
  • Waterproofing concrete/masonry/wood sealers and repellents (not tar or bitumen-based)
  • Metal coatings, rust preventatives
  • Field and lawn paints

No other products or household hazardous waste will be accepted, and the collector has the right to refuse any non-program product.

These programs are only for household materials from King County residents and are funded in part by a Local Solid Waste Financial Assistance grant from the Department of Ecology, the King County Solid Waste Division, the Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County, and the City of Kent Public Works Department.
