Exercise Classes

The Kent Senior Activity Center provides of variety of exercise classes to help maintain health and vitality.

Yoga

Yoga helps ease tension, increase strength and flexibility and improves overall health. No previous yoga experience needed, beginners welcome. Instructor Carolyn Rosenfield has over 20 years of teaching experience. Please bring a mat and 1 large towel

Tai Chi & Movement Group

Thursday, 11:00 a.m.

Tai Chi Movement is a slow, gentle class that will assist you with better balance, less stress and more connection to yourself and others. Mindful meditation can help reduce the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression

Come join this video-led exercise group. Everyone is welcome!

REFLEXOLOGY

Enjoy a relaxing 30-minute reflexology session working on your feet (hands and ears can be worked as well). Clients will lay on a massage table, fully clothed, aside from shoes and socks. Call (253) 856-5150 to schedule an appointment.

Bags are available for check-out at no cost from the Senior Center front desk during regular operating hours; players are also welcome to use their own. Corn hole is available to play on a first-come, first-served basis.

OUTDOOR PING PONG

Daily 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Join us for ping pong in our new outdoor recreation area!

Paddles and balls are available for check-out at no cost from the Senior Center front desk; players are also welcome to use their own. Outdoor ping pong is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Haircuts

Clients must wash their hair on the day of dry cut appointment. Stylist has the right to refuse service if hair is not shampooed.

Health Clinic/Foot Care

A licensed nail technician from Wellness Footcare will complete an assessment of your feet and then soak them, trim the nails, and file and pad corns/calluses. To schedule your appointment, call 253- 856-5159. Cost: $40.00.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels offers relief to older adults by delivering reliable, nutritious meals on a weekly basis. Our friendly drivers bring meals directly to their homes. Call 253-856-5158 for details.

Elder Law by Sound Generations - FREE

Elder Law Clinic is held on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month to help with senior/aging legal issues. Please call 206-448-5720 to schedule an appointment.

Senior Legal Clinic by Iddins Law Group

Be Well Workshops

Social Support Group

Mondays 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Join us to meet new friends and talk about topics of interest or concern, while receiving support and encouragement. Facilitated by Valley Cities Behavioral Health Care.

Individual Counseling

One-on-one counseling sessions are provided by Valley Cities Counseling; appointments are held in person, via phone, or Zoom. This program is funded by the King County VSHS Levy. These appointments are free of charge. A broad range of issues can be discussed in confidence during these sessions. Call the Senior Center to make an appointment 253-856-5150.

Woodcarving

Sports

The Kent Senior Activity Center provides a variety of sports related activities throughout the year.

Pickleball

Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Drop in pickleball is played at the Kent Commons gym year round. Daily drop in fee is $3.00. (At this time we are accepting credit card payments only.) Quarterly passes are also available at Kent Commons.

Hiking

We offer group hiking year round. Hike destinations vary greatly in distance and difficulty. Advanced registration required, see the Kent Parks Fall Recreation Guide for details. Contact the KSAC at 253-856-5150 for more info.

Sport Fishing Program

We offer a variety of fishing tours from single day trips to overnight travel angling adventures. Please pick up a flyer for specific details. The Senior Activity Center has quality loaner gear available. Please inquire at registration. Contact John Fiskum at 253-856-5163 for more information.

North of Fifty Snowsports Program

Join us Thursdays from January to March for thrilling adventures to the finest Nordic destinations in the region! Travel in style aboard a deluxe motorcoach and explore the best snow sports spots. Led by an experienced guide, each trip promises excitement and unforgettable winter memories. Don’t miss out on the snowy fun - grab your gear and let’s go!

Trips and Tours

The Kent Senior Activity Center provides a variety of trips around the region, please see the Kent Parks Program Guide for more details.

Day Trips

Senior Trips and Tours are back. We will travel in the Center's 14 passenger bus, 11 passenger van, or chartered coach to a variety of interesting destinations in the Pacific Northwest. These trips are designed to be affordable and provide an opportunity to make friends while visiting area attractions.

Registration Policies

To reserve a trip space by phone, please call 253-856-5150. VISA and MasterCard accepted.

Please be aware that the City of Kent has a “no-tolerance” policy regarding drinking or drugs and driving. If you are driving home from a Senior Activity Center trip, please be responsible.

The Kent Senior Activity Center requires early sign up for overnight tours. For us to qualify as a group, registration is required at least 60 days before departure, and a minimum number of travelers are required. To assist with this, we have initiated a registration deadline.

Participation Policy – We reserve the right to determine the level of activity AND the eligibility of an individual’s ability to participate on each trip or one’s need for assistance. We also reserve the right to expel any person whose behavior is inappropriate or incompatible with the interests of the tour group. All participants in our activities must match the name of the person registered for the program.

Extra Cost Provision – As on any trip, inclement weather and other conditions beyond our control may prevent or delay departure of a scheduled airline, ship, train or motor coach. If, as a result of a delay, the participant must book an additional hotel night, meals, transportation, etc. all additional costs are solely the responsibility of the participant, not the City of Kent or any other supplier. Due to rising fuel costs, a fuel surcharge may be implemented by trip provider.

Most trips fill up, so sign up early. Once a trip fills a waitlist is maintained. A trip having a waitlist does not guarantee your spot can be filled if you cancel.

Trip Activity Levels

Below are generic trip activity levels. See description of each individual trip for specific details.

EASY – Up to 2 blocks of walking on even terrain and a few stairs. Periodic rest stops and intermittent seating available throughout the day.

MILD – Between 2-4 blocks of even walking and short flight(s) of stairs. Resting areas vary. Standing approximately 30 minutes periodically over the day.

MODERATE – Up to 4 blocks of walking and some incline and/or steps involved. Resting areas available at end of tour. Standing approximately 1 hour periodically over the day. May not be appropriate for canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.

STRENOUS – More than 4 blocks of walking with many stairs and uneven terrain. No resting areas available for long periods of time. More than 1 hour of standing. Not appropriate for canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.

Participants with physical limitations should take this into account.
