Service Fees to be Implemented December 1, 2019
Starting December 1, customers paying utility bills, public records fees or permitting fees by credit or debit card will be charged a 2.65% service fee.
Starting December 1, customers paying utility bills, public records fees or permitting fees by credit or debit card will be charged a 2.65% service fee. This fee will cover the fees the bank charges us to process those payments. This will mean, for example, a water bill of $100 paid by credit or debit card will be assessed a service fee of $2.65.
There are ways to avoid paying those fees including:
- Signing up for automatic payments from your checking account
- Pay by cash or check at the Customer Service counter
- Pay by check through the mail or drop box on the City Hall campus
- Sign up for bill pay directly through your bank
Another option available to our customers is to by via echeck for a flat fee of $0.85 per transaction.
Why are we making the change? Our bank charges us fees for every debit and credit card transaction. By assessing these service fee, we can save the City more than $700,000 a year.
