FOR THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM

Post Date:02/08/2019 1:26 pm

PUBLIC NOTICE

CITY OF KENT

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE 2018

CONSOLIDATED ANNUAL PERFORMANCE AND EVALUATION REPORT (CAPER) FOR

THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM

The CAPER is written and submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) annually. Its primary purpose is to inform the citizens of Kent where federal dollars are being spent, by whom, and what that money accomplishes. It also serves as an evaluation tool, and begins the process of setting spending goals for the next year.

In accordance with 24 CFR 91, the City of Kent solicits comments and public review for its 2017 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The Kent Human Services Commission will conduct a public hearing on Monday, February 25, 2019, at 6:00 p.m., in the Centennial Center, 400 W. Gowe Street, Kent, WA  98032, first floor, North/South Conference Rooms. The purpose of this hearing is to solicit public comments prior to approval of the CAPER and submission of the report to HUD.

The CAPER is an overall review of housing and community development activities undertaken in 2018 in Kent.  It is part of the Consolidated Planning process.  It delineates the amount of federal funding that was distributed through the program, where that money was spent, and it assesses how that spending addressed the housing and community development goals that the City identified in its Consolidated Plan.  In 2018, the CDBG program distributed 1,476,811.92 for capital and public service projects.

The Consolidated Plan is an overall strategy for housing and community development in Kent. It is a prerequisite to receiving federal HUD funds. It guides the City in its allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds.

Written comments and/or suggestions may be made in person before the Human Services Commission during the public hearing on Monday, February 25, 2019, or mailed to Dinah Wilson, CDBG Program Coordinator, Housing and Human Services Division, City of Kent, 220 4th Ave. S., Kent, WA 98032.  Comments may also be faxed to (253) 856-6070.
