  • Introduction: Sylvia Mendez, the Civil Rights Activist and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, will be speaking at Green River College Kent Campus. Please join us for the first event in our new Equity & Inclusion speaker series.
Sylvia Mendez, Civil Rights Activist and Recipient of Presidential Medal of Freedom, will speak in Kent on November 14, 2019.Sylvia Mendez, the Civil Rights Activist and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, will be speaking at Green River College Kent Campus as the first speaker in our new Equity and Inclusion Speaker series.

At age eight, Sylvia played an instrumental role in the Mendez v. Westminster case in 1946, the landmark desegregation case that set an important legal precedent for ending segregation in the United States, paving the way for Brown v Board of education seven years later.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

The Equity and Inclusion Speaker Series will feature distinguished leaders who will contribute expert knowledge and diverse perspectives to our collective discussion around concepts like Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. All interactive presentations and workshops will be free to the public
