2004 City of Kent Comprehensive Plan (PDF, 18MB) 

 

A recent update of the Comprehensive Plan was adopted via Ordinance numbers 3794 through 3797 (effective May 4, 2006).  The Comprehensive Plan was adopted in April 1995, under provisions of the 1990 Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA), and a full update was completed in August 2004. The Comprehensive Plan guides City decisions about land use and zoning regulations, public improvements, and has been an effective tool to manage growth in Kent.

Envision Midway Subarea Planning

Envision Midway ProjectThe Cities of Kent and Des Moines have completed Envision Midway, a collaborative public involvement effort to guide the future revitalization of the area saddled around Pacific Highway South.    

 

 Shoreline Master Program Update 

shoreline master program update mapRevising policies and rules for development and uses associated with important shoreline environments.
City Council adopted the updated SMP on September 15, 2009.  The updated SMP became effective with State Department of Ecology approval on February 11, 2010.

 

 

Planning Services is assisted by a Hearing Examiner and the Land Use & Planning Board in the completion of its duties. The Hearing Examiner reviews and approves certain land use permit applications following public hearings required by City ordinance. in some cases (such as rezones), the Hearing Examiner makes a recommendation to the City Council. The Land Use and Planning Board - a seven member board of lay citizens- reviews and recommends proposed policy changes, including amendments to development codes and the comprehensive plan.

Land Use and Planning Board

The Land Use and Planning Board holds workshops and public hearings on city codes and ordinances, comprehensive plan updates, and matters typically associated with Long Range Planning functions.
