The City of Kent was successful in receiving a grant for the Kent Regional Trails Connector Project for $1,125,368 from the Puget Sound Regional Council's Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program. This grant will help the City to expand the pedestrian and bicycle network by connecting two regional trails with the city's street network. A 4,430 foot trail extension will be built connecting the Green River Trail and the Interurban Trail.
Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons and marked crosswalks will be installed where the new trail crosses mid-block at 64th Aveneu South and 72nd Avenue South at approximately S, 218th Street. A traffic signal for pedestrians and bicyclists crossing mid-block will be installed on West Valley Highway (SR 181 at approximately S. 218th Street.
